Clinical Supervision for Counsellors

Dana Simard, RCC SEP OIC ATR
BCACC ACS Candidate Clinical Supervision
Clinical supervision may be helpful for counsellors who are:
• working toward professional registration requirements
• seeking reflective consultation or ongoing professional development
• integrating somatic or nervous-system-informed approaches
• navigating challenging client situations or ethical considerations
• wishing to deepen their clinical confidence and presence
Supervision can support counsellors at many stages of professional development and can be shaped around individual learning goals.
Clinical Supervision with Dana Simard
Dana Simard offers clinical supervision for counsellors and therapists seeking a thoughtful and supportive space for reflection, learning, and professional development. Supervision can help practitioners deepen their clinical understanding, strengthen confidence in their work, and explore the complex relational and ethical dimensions of counselling practice.

Dana holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and Art Therapy and has spent many years working with individuals and couples (including the Gottman Method) through somatic and nervous-system-informed approaches. Her work is informed by training in Somatic Experiencing®, Organic Intelligence®, and trauma-informed counselling practices that emphasize safety, attunement, and regulation within the therapeutic relationship.

Dana approaches supervision as a collaborative process that honours the unique strengths, curiosity, and professional path of each counsellor. Sessions are intended to support practitioners in developing greater clinical clarity while also maintaining a sense of balance, sustainability, and presence within their work.
A Somatic and Nervous-System-Informed Supervision Approach
Dana’s supervision approach is grounded in an understanding of the nervous system and the relational dynamics that unfold within therapeutic work. Counsellors are often supporting clients through complex emotional experiences, trauma histories, and challenging life circumstances, which can also impact the therapist’s own internal experience in the room.

Supervision provides a place to slow down and explore these dynamics with curiosity and care. Through reflective conversation, counsellors can deepen their awareness of relational patterns, nervous system responses, and the subtle ways safety and regulation influence the therapeutic process.

By integrating somatic awareness into supervision, counsellors can develop a greater capacity to remain grounded and present with clients while also caring for their own wellbeing as practitioners.
Integrating Learning and Professional Growth
In addition to clinical work and supervision, Dana is the author of Embody: Your Resilient Life, a comprehensive nervous-system-informed educational course designed to help people understand the physiology of stress, regulation, and resilience.

While the course is designed for a broad audience, many counsellors and helping professionals have found it valuable as a resource for deepening their understanding of nervous system functioning and somatic principles.

Supervision conversations may sometimes draw on themes explored within Embody, particularly around nervous system regulation, resilience, and the development of greater awareness within therapeutic relationships.

Counsellors who are curious about these concepts can also explore the support between counselling sessions page to learn more about the Embody course and other educational resources.
Supervision Sessions
Supervision sessions are available in person in Victoria BC or virtually, allowing counsellors from across British Columbia to participate.
